How to make barrier masks:
It is very easy to assemble and sew, even for beginners in sewing. In addition, it is intended for domestic and artisanal manufacturing according to the information provided by AFNOR. We have provided 3 layers of tight cotton fabrics, the middle layer increases filtration for greater protection. After assembling the 3 squares of cotton fabric of 20 cm, it will be necessary to carry out a simple folding which will be fixed by a seam at the same time as the installation of the elastic.
We found Elsa Couture's video tutorial simple but clear on the steps to create your mask that you will find here.
When to wear your mask and for how long:
Wearing the mask will constitute a barrier to possible penetration of the virus through the nose and mouth of its user and will protect these areas of the face with his hands. We remind you that there is still a non-medical device, the port of which is recommended by the authorities when you are in an area with other people: In public transport to commute to your place of work, to make purchases of first necessities authorized for example.
How to wash and maintain the masks.
According to AFNOR recommendations, you must wash your mask at 60 ° C when it has been soiled or worn for more than 4 hours. We have imagined this kit of 24 barrier masks to facilitate frequent rotation. You will gain autonomy and can group the washes. It is not unusual for fabrics to tarnish during washes. Indeed, although the fabrics can be washed at 60 ° C, the intensive frequency of washes necessary for its use will prematurely degrade the intensity of the colors. Masks should be washed before first use.
As the AFNOR document indicates, these hand-made folded barrier masks that you will assemble have not been subject to conformity assessment by certified bodies or laboratories. The design and manufacturing according to the rules of the art, and quality control therefore remains the responsibility of the one who manufactures it.
