The Madras, a symbol of the colonial era, has been worn on the islands since the end of the 17th century by white women. Black women appropriated it around the middle of the 18th century. Today very present in Martinique and Guadeloupe and worn by all generations, the Madras almost disappeared before reappearing in force in everyday clothing and decoration (curtain, tablecloth, cushion, jar of jam, ... ), even in fashion shows!
